The Celebrex danger of increased heart attack and stroke risks
was publicly announced on December 17, 2004. The preliminary result of a clinical trial
shows evidence of the cardiovascular Celebrex danger. The study was funded by Pfizer,
Celebrex's maker, and was conducted by the National Caner Institute to test the Celebrex
side effects on cancer. The study was suspended after preliminary results revealed the
Celebrex danger risks for patients taking this pain relieving prescription drug. Patients
in the clinical trial taking 400 to 800 milligrams of Celebrex were 2.5 times more likely
to suffer the Celebrex danger of an adverse cardiovascular event than patients in the
placebo group.
Pfizer does not intend to recall Celebrex as a result of Celebrex danger
reports. Pfizer announced it is taking immediate steps to investigate these findings and
promised to inform regulators, doctors and patients about this possible Celebrex danger.
Patients who buy Celebrex have the right to know all the possible Celebrex side effects.
Celebrex (celecoxib), classified and known as a COX-2 inhibitor, or coxib, is
used to treat arthritis. Celebrex is in the same class of drugs as Vioxx and Bextra.
Celebrex danger analysis has been complicated by the fact that similar Celebrex side
effects studies have found no increased cardiovascular risks in patients taking Celebrex.
Celebrex danger information has been affected by the recent recalls of Vioxx and Bextra.
These recalls prompted concern about Celebrex danger from the Celebrex side effects, and
the danger of all COX-2 NSAIDs. A Celebrex recall may be imminent due to the recent
findings of similarities between Celebrex, Vioxx and Bextra.
Pfizer announced on several occasions that there is no cardiovascular Celebrex
danger risk for patients taking this pain medication. However, there are other types of
Celebrex danger that may cause an increased risk of adverse health problems. Pfizer,
along with government regulators, will continue to investigate Celebrex danger until
cardiovascular risk findings are confirmed.
In addition to increased risk of heart attack and stroke, other Celebrex dangers
are heightened risk of gastrointestinal hemorrhage, ulcers and kidney problems. Celebrex
danger is increased for patients who have allergic reactions to aspirin, other arthritis
medications, or certain sulfa drugs (sulfonamides). Increased Celebrex danger risks also
exist for patients who suffer from high blood pressure, fluid retention, or heart problems.
Other possible Celebrex side effects:
| • an allergic reaction |
• abdominal pain, tenderness, or discomfort |
| • bloody, black, or tarry stools |
• nausea or heartburn |
| • bloody vomit |
• unexplained weight gain |
| • swelling or water retention |
• unusual fatigue or lethargy |
| • skin rash or itching |
• jaundice |
| • “flu-like" symptoms |
• unusual bruising or bleeding |
